Compete Hockey: Compete Hockey Academy

Compete Hockey Academy

Compete Hockey Academy teams play out of the brand new, state of the art, Frontier Arena in Post Falls Idaho, where teams have their own permanent dressing room and workout facility. Compete Hockey Academy also offers a true education based hockey program that has its players attend Genisis Preparatory Academy a private Christian School in Post Falls Idaho.

Compete Hockey is directed by former NHL player Cam Severson. Cam played for the Anaheim Ducks under Mike Babcock as well as the Columbus Blue Jackets. He finished his career playing in various European Elite Leagues in Germany and Austria. Cam coached a Bantam AAA team two seasons ago that finished with a 51 - 19 - 3 record from which four players were selected in the 2011 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft. Last season Cam coached a U16 Midget Tier 1 team that competed at a combination of Midget U17 Tier 1 tournaments in Canada as well as Midget U16 Tier 1 tournaments in the United States.

“Cam is proven teacher of the game, he knows what it takes to play at the highest level; he pushes players to reach their full potential with a solid hockey development program.”

Todd Ripplinger, Head Scout of the Western Hockey League Vancouver Giants.

Compete Hockey Academy instills work ethic, discipline, and accountability in it's players. Compete's program is set up to prepare players for the Western Hockey League, United States Hockey League, British Columbia Hockey League, and the North American Hockey League. Compete Hockey Acadmy also understand the importance of educating players and families on the different routes players should take to pursue their life goals. Compete's Coaches have numerous contacts throughout the above mentioned leagues and will help create player opportunities. For players that are already drafted or listed by junior teams, Compete's coaches will be in constant contact with Head Scouts, Coaches and General Managers on player progress throughout the season. Our program will compete against any program throughout the United States and Canada in preparing players to play Junior and College Hockey.

It is Compete Hockey’s goal to prepare our athletes for life experiences beyond hockey; we have partnered with Genesis Preparatory Academy in Post Falls Idaho to provide our players a solid education base. Genesis Prep scores in the top 25% in standardized testing nationally. GPA and Compete hockey have worked to create an academic curriculum that allows the student athlete to integrate hockey with school.

“We encourage and provide academic excellence with challenging curriculum implemented by our certified teaching staff. Small classroom sizes enable individual attention and increased student participation. We focus on character training, accepting personal responsibility, ability to face challenges with honesty and integrity and willingness to take risks and perseverance.”

“We prepare students for life in an environment that is safe and focused.”

Practice and Dry Land Training

Our regular season program will consist of three or four 1.5 hour weekday practices. Our in-season practice master plan will follow proven techniques at the major junior levels. Individual skill development will continue within the necessary team systems progression.

In addition to the three on-ice practices there will be three one hour weekly dry-land sessions at the brand new Compete Hockey training facility in Post Falls. Workouts will be high intensity and will focus on hockey specific muscles and movements as compared to traditional athletic training. Off-ice training will include in-season and off season programs, strength and conditioning. Individual fitness testing will be performed once a month to track player’s fitness progress. Strength and conditioning programs will be designed specifically for each player’s needs and will include mental training and preparation.

We will have two off-site team building and conditioning mini camps, one in the beginning of the season and one before regionals.

Game Schedule

Compete's team games consist of 60+ tournament, exibition and league games throughout the Untited Staes and Canada.

Academics:

Whether attending GPA or another local school, our program will require the player to maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher to play in games as we make academics and time management a high priority, including mandatory study halls on road trips.

Housing:

All of our out of town players will be billeted*with local families from the team and community. They will be screened thoroughly to ensure that each family’s values meet the values set by our team, we feel that this provides a great experience for players to learn how to adapt to new surroundings as well as have a “home away from home” to make our players feel as comfortable as possible. We ensure that our players will be placed in a positive and supportive environment. All players will be given a strict “Code of Conduct” to abide by. If your player has goals to play “Junior Hockey”, billeting is something every junior player will experience. Our billet coordinator Trina Tinder will oversee all player housing issues.

*Billeting is a private and legal guardianship arrangement between player and host family and is not a contract with Compete Hockey.
